What can you expect?

Imagine awakening to beautiful views, the sounds of nature and freshness in the air – welcome to “Maison de Gruenebennet”. Cozy, homely, relaxing and peaceful are words that describe the experience of staying here. It truly is a place to get away from it all. This newly refurbished maisonette is spread over 3 levels and designed in an open-loft style. Therefore, it is ideally suited for a couple or a family of 4. It is situated along a path that leads to a nature walk that is popular with hikers and a small stream runs close by through some woodlands.

Description of facilities

The maisonette "Bellevue" is equipped for up to 4 people. Upon entering, you arrive at the dining area and fully equipped kitchen: Dining table, chairs, stove, dishwasher, fridge, oven, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, radio, bowls, plates, cups, cutlery, etc. The kitchen also contains a fireplace ideal for the long winter nights. The main bathroom is also situated on the ground floor with a large bath, sink, toilet and cupboard space. A short wooden staircase leads to the middle floor where you’ll find a large living area complete with sofa, chairs, television, toilet and a bed (2,0mx1,8m). The open mezzanine on top floor contains a bedroom with a bed that functions either as a double bed (2,0mx1,8m) or two single beds. There is a wardrobe, full-length mirror, side tables and reading lamps. Extras: Hair dryer, ironing board, iron, Wi-Fi (free of charge upon presentation of an Identification Document), Baby Cot (on request), linen, hand and bath towels and bathrobes are included in the price! (1x person per stay. For longer stays we can arrange additional clean linen) A car park is available for up to 2 cars. Smoking is not permitted in the property. There is a small terrace complete with table and chairs with a view on the valley and hills.

What is there to do in the area?

For the curious and culturally adventurous visitor, the diversity of this region holds many possibilities to discover, relax and experience things that interest you. Three countries, each with its own rich cultural heritage, converge to provide lots of choice.

Belgium

For the outdoor enthusiast the situation of this property means that nature is literally on your doorstep. If you like to walk, jog or hike you can explore the natural surroundings with its paths, woodlands and protected environment. Experienced cyclists will find the hills stimulating and just the challenge for keeping you in peak condition.

Each of the surrounding villages has its own unique charm and in the village of Hombourg you’ll find a small brewery, which is typical for this region. In Plombières there is the “Born” family bakery for buying your fresh croissants and patisseries and there are several shops and supermarkets close by. Plombières also boasts 2 Friteries, where you can sample the famous Belgian French fries and a multitude of tasty sauces! On the outskirts of Sippenaeken there is a 27-hole golf course and the village itself has several bars, restaurants and ice-cream parlors.

A short drive away you’ll discover the pristine town of Aubel, which is well equipped with shops, bars, and restaurants and is the home of the famous Staessens cider. Continue further and you arrive at the Abbaye de Val Dieu. This is an idyllic tourist attraction where you can visit the ancient Abbaye, dine and sample the distinctive “Val Dieu” Trappist beer. In the summer, there is an entertainment program in the evenings in the grounds of the Abbaye.

The provincial city of Liège is about 30 minutes drive and its Sunday flea market is particularly worth a visit.

The Netherlands

Across the border you enter into the province of Zuid Limburg. The nearest town is Vaals, a typically vibrant small Dutch town complete with a wide variety of shops, bars and restaurants. There is also a swimming pool nearby. The surrounding villages and hamlets are perfect for that Sunday drive and you’ll find lots of cozy cafes where you can stop for lunch or a drink. A short distance away is the famous spa town of Valkenberg and for wellness enthusiasts this is well worth a visit.

The charming provincial town of Maastricht is approximately 30-40 minutes drive from “Maison de Gruenebennet”. Situated on the river Maas it is very cosmopolitan with a wide range of cultural attractions and is a popular place to shop with its many boutiques situated along winding cobbled streets. From Maastricht, you can take a boat ride along the River Maas to Liège, where the river changes its name to “La Meuse”.

Germany

At the end of the high street in Vaals you cross the border into Germany and are immediately in the suburbs of the historic medieval town of Aachen (sometimes known by its French name of Aix-la-Chapelle). Aachen is just 12km from the “Maison de Gruenebennet” and here you’ll discover many attractions that are open to the public all year round. A must-see is the famous Aachener Dome (Cathedral), which is a World Heritage Site, the historic City Hall and the surrounding Alt Stadt (old town) center where its many pubs and “ginger bread” attractions invite you to linger. There are several churches and museums to see, excellent restaurants where you can sample local dishes and, as you would expect, extensive shopping areas to explore. Aachen is also famous for its Christmas Market and its extended Carneval celebrations. Each year in June thousands of horse lovers converge on the city for its annual CHIO World Equestrian Festival.

All in all, there is a lot to experience starting out from the “Maison de Greunebennet”.
